Be Glad your Nose is on Your Face by Jack Prelutsky

Be glad your nose is on your face,
not pasted on some other place,
for if it were where it is not,
you might dislike your nose a lot.

Imagine if your precious nose
were sandwiched in between your toes,
that clearly would not be a treat,
for you'd be forced to smell your feet.

Your nose would be a source of dread
were it attached atop your head,
it soon would drive you to despair,
forever tickled by your hair.

Within your ear, your nose would be
an absolute catastrophe,
for when you were obliged to sneeze,
your brain would rattle from the breeze.

Your nose, instead, through thick and thin,
remains between your eyes and chin,
not pasted on some other place--
be glad your nose is on your face!
 Analysis
When I was studying the poem the one word I thought that we should know was obliged which means to require. The poem is literally about your nose being on your face and how you should be glad its not some other place. The author uses personification: Your brain will rattle from the breeze; Imagery: sandwiched between your toes; and Metaphor: he uses metaphor throughout the whole poem saying that your nose is in different places. Jack utilizes the following sound devices: alliteration: through, thick, and thin; Rhyme: face, place; and assance: were, where. The poem’s stanza is 5, 4 line. Rhyme scheme is aa, bb. The meter is tetrameter. The speaker of the poem could be the poet. There really isn’t any reason it could or couldn’t be. The shift occurs right before the last stanza. I know this because the first four stanzas are about your nose being some where it shouldn’t be. The last stanza is where he is telling you about what your nose is. The tone of this poem is thankful. Some clues of the tone and r: through thick and thin and glad. I interpreted the theme as you should be thankful for what you have and do not try and change it because it could go wrong. When he talked about putting your nose other places and through, thick, and thin helped me come to this conclusion.

Reflection

My poems are all really different.  My poems say who I am, like the autobiographical poem. It also says what I believe, the pollution poem. It also tells a little about my last name. One poem kind of showed that I had a sense of humor. I love to write poems that rhyme and that are funny. What’s in the Closet was my favorite poem. It was really fun to write and find words to rhyme with it. One my poems I really struggled writing with was the art response poem. I think I would have had an easier time if it was a picture I actually knew about and liked. I learned about myself because I never really think about myself and what makes me, me. I also learned about the poems themselves like; how they are set up what some of the poems are called. I think my blog tells that I  am a creative  person, and at times I think outside the box. Another thing my blog tells about me is, that i am a colorful person.

What's in the Closet? (Bingo Extras)

What's in the closet?
A black furry winter coat too small
One popped beach ball
A green urmbrella with a huge hole
A light too dull
An old Candy Land game
Grandpa's old, wooden cane
A shaggy, dusty, old rug
And a nasty, little bug
I think it is time to clean the closet

RocketPops (Sensory Poem)

Looks like an american rocket ship
sounds like you bitting into an apple
smells like cherries
Tastes like cherries, blue raspberry, and coconut
it freezes your teeth and your tongue,
reminds you of hot summer days
in your childhood ways

Circus (Art Response Poem)

The crowed yells
the Hypnosis casts spells
the horse gallops,
as the girl does a hand stand on her back
the drum line drums,
as the man get shot out of a cannon
the crowed gasps
the clown flips and falls down
the crowed frowns
when the announcer says it's time to go

Stop Pollution (Borrowed Poem)

Borrowed From: Daryl Hine

Nowadays the mess is every where
in the sky,
on the ground,
in the ocean,
killing animals.

Taking a few steps
we can stop this mess
stop driving two blocks; walk, and do not forget to recycle
you can make a difference, change the world
STOP PULLUTION

Tori Pfertsh (Autobiographical Bingo Poem)

Tori
Tall, hazel eyes, dirty-blonde hair
Daughter of Barbara Pfertsh
Who loves music, friends, family and memories
Who feels accomplished when she gets A's in school
Who needs sleep, time, support, and love
Who gives off smiles and happiness
Who fears of not having love in her life
Who'd like to see Rome and all its ruins
Who dreams of being a doctor
A student of music
